About us
IDAY (International Day of the African Child and
Youth) was launched in 2005 by the Fund Message
of Yaguine & Fodé upon the suggestion of
several organisations of the African civil society
and members of the African Diaspora in Europe. In
a short time, IDAY has become a large network of European
and African civil society organisations (CSO) committed
to improving education in Africa. IDAY-International,
which coordinates the activities of the national coalitions,
became an official non-profit seeking international
association in January 2008.
Its members unite to foster dialogue with their governments
and to encourage them to take the necessary steps
to ensure quality basic education to all by 2015.
The network aims at strengthening CSOs’ advocacy
capacities and empowering them so that their voice
will be better heard and taken into account. Each
year since 2005, several activities are organised
together in each member country to raise awareness
on education issues and mobilise the civil society
and authorities on addressing the needs.
In 2011, IDAY operated in 8 European and 16 African countries with more than 240 member associations. |
